Notice Period & Notice Pay Calculator — UK 2026

Use this free calculator to work out the minimum notice your employer must give you and how much notice pay (PILON) you should receive. Under the Employment Rights Act, you are entitled to one week's notice after one month of service, rising to one week per complete year of service from two years, capped at 12 weeks. Your contract can give you more — never less.

How Notice Pay Works

If your employer ends your employment immediately and pays you instead of letting you work your notice, this is Pay In Lieu Of Notice (PILON). PILON is calculated on your normal pay and is fully taxable — unlike statutory redundancy pay, which is tax-free. Notice pay does not count towards the £30,000 tax-free redundancy allowance.
